What is

Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapists are experts in activities of daily living and support people to complete activities which they want and need to do. These activities include personal care such as bathing and dressing, managing the home like cooking and cleaning, work or educational tasks, and leisure or social participation.

People may struggle with these activities for a variety of reasons, including physical health issues like injury, illness, or age-related changes, as well as mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, or cognitive difficulties. Environmental factors, such as an inaccessible home or workplace, and social or cultural influences, like limited support or differing expectations, can also play a role.

Occupational Therapists take a holistic approach, assessing each person’s unique strengths and challenges, and then working to adapt tasks or environments, teach new techniques, and collaborate with families and other professionals. The aim is to support individuals to live as independently and meaningfully as possible, regardless of the barriers they may face.
